Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra is a masterpiece. Not only because it follows after one of the most iconic shows in some of our childhoods, but because it shows us so many things that other TV shows would be afraid of addressing, especially for children. The piece that I loved the MOST about Legend of Korra is the fact that Asami and Korra don't keep fighting over Mako who was once both their boyfriends. Instead, they keep their relationship INTACT and continue to talk to each other and confide in each other. They always turn to each other for help and instead of letting Korra find solace in consulting Mako all the time, the writers allow her to find peace in talking to Asami, although they should be stereotypically enemies fighting for the love of the same guy. I mean, in the last episode when they leave for a vacation together to the spirit world? That was so EPIC. Instead of Korra finding peace and relaxation by kissing Mako and living happily ever after, the writers decided that her happiness would lie in her friendship with a wonderful and talented girl like Asami. Also, their utilization of Asami to represent a versatile CEO and engineer is amazing. What is stereotypically the role of a man, the writers gave it to Asami who is both beautiful and intelligent. Korra also isn't boy crazy. Thank God. Finally watching a television show that wasn't so focused on relationships was SO refreshing because she wasn't always worried about Mako but instead was worried about finding herself. Rather in this case, Mako was the one who was hung up about their relationship and promised to always love her first. Many of the main characters were girls. I don't know if that was to make up for the fact that Avatar, The Last Airbender was mainly male, but even in that show Katara was a huge factor in a lot of their victories. No no but in Legend of Korra, Jinora was the one to tap into the spirit world, surpassing her father who is both male and older than she is. The last enemy in the entire show is a woman who is highly intelligent and respect. And the chief of police and the leader of the Metal Clan are both female as well. The amount of female representation in this TV show is great. I'm so in LOVE with all of this. Also did I mention the social commentary. Oh my goodness. The social commentary in this show that was established in 2010 is way ahead of its time. The equalists in season one seemed to be referencing the blacks vs. whites situation that has been occurring for quite some time now. The equalists were hell bent on taking down the benders because they were being oppressed and silenced by them. They were beginning a revolution and attempting to take the benders down. Next, the struggle with Korra's uncle, who was trying to become the Dark Avatar reminds me a lot of Trump - a man who is highly influential and followed by many using his power to rise to power. It's as if they were beginning to predict all of this stuff since a couple years ago. I mean if they did know, a heads up would have been nice. But what they did was amazing. The entirety of the show was beautiful and so intriguing and so entertaining. I definitely recommend everyone to watch it. I may have missed some things because I zoomed through the show but overall, it's a 10/10.
