eyes and ears down

What is so interesting that's on your phone? What could it possibly be that you have to put your head down as you stare into a virtual world that we will never be able to live within? It's just an accumulated number of pixels coming together to create a picture that happens to give us a visual on someone else's life. But can you actually jump to that reality as you double tap it through the screen as you show your jealous and/or affection or even relation to their pictures? Why do we see it as such a necessity to spend our day pouring our eyes and souls into a virtual world that really boils down to nothing but a couple of words put together as a caption and an edited photo as the other person only publicizes the best part of their life.

What about the world around you? Does it not mean anything anymore? Do the birds that fly right above your head, possibly contemplating defecating on you to make you even think about looking up to see what bird you need to curse for the rest of your life, do they even matter to you? Does life even matter to you anymore? Does walking along the sidewalk without snapchatting the sky even exist anymore? Do the flashing lights of the city life around you with glowing lights in the watercolor sky even matter or would you rather switch it out for the glowing screen in the palm of your hands? Do the words that your friends utter even manage to float into your ears or have you tuned them out for what your earphones have to tell you instead from people you will never even meet? Does your family even matter to your simple existence anymore? Have they just become mere crutches as they supply the bill for the metal contraption that has captivated your attention so heavily?

Why do we insist on wasting away our lives on social media that we no longer talk to the people beside us? We have reached an all time low when it is easier for me to text you what I want to say rather than tell you as you sit next to me.
