You Do You

I hate the phrase "You do you". I'm sure the people who use it mean well. I mean the point of the phrase is probably to ensure people that whatever they choose to do will be the best because they're making their own choices. But if I'm asking you for advice and you tell me "you do you"? You better believe I'm not going to respond well. I asked you for advice for a reason - because right now, me doing what I would do is probably not the best option. And honestly, "you do you" sounds like such an apathetic response. Tell me if you don't know what to say - I'll be more open to that than I am to "you do you."
