Secrets

"What's your deepest, darkest secret?" I get asked that question a lot and I'm sure most people usually do because it's an aspect of our lives that is mysterious and thus captivating. We want to know the secrets of those around us because it gives us a sense of being special - we've been let into the parts of this person that are usually hidden from the rest of the world. We have the power to keep it or reveal it, making the person vulnerable and relatable. Maybe it's because we want to feel included in such an intimate part of our peers' lives, but whatever the case may be, I don't subscribe to the idea of secrets because as some of you may know, I talk way too much. Everything on my mind spills out to at least one person because secrets are useless to me. Keeping things from people? Not my thing. Why? Do I trust people that much? Am I that dense? Yes and no. I reveal my feelings so easily and so often because I know that we all have them - it's just a matter of how much we want to reveal. A lot of the ideas that flow through our minds at the age of 16 are typical of other teenagers as well, and that's not a bad thing. It just means that we have more to talk about: a lot of us just choose to hide it and to keep it pent up because we're so self conscious of our thoughts and feelings. Let them go. Words are meant to be said and they are meant to be shared because we are a community of people here to help each other - or at least we should be.
